A nine-year-old girl has been left traumatised following what police describe as a “racially aggravated” airgun attack in Brentry, Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses.
What Happened
The attack took place around 1:30pm on Chakeshill Drive. The girl was struck three times by airgun pellets. Although fortunately she has not suffered serious physical injuries, she is deeply affected and reportedly now afraid to leave her home. Police say a racial comment was made during the incident, which has led them to treat it as racially aggravated.
Description of Suspect & Investigation Status
The suspect is described as a white male around 17-18 years old, about 5ft 11in tall with dark blonde hair, slim build, wearing a blue padded coat, riding a black electric scooter. Police believe there may have been more than one offender involved.
Officers are conducting CCTV and house-to-house enquiries and working to gather any footage from dashcams, doorbells or similar sources. Avon and Somerset Police have also referred the victim and her family to Stand Against Racism and Inequality (SARI) for support.
Community Impact & Police Response
Neighbourhood policing leaders described the attack as “deeply troubling” and said they understand the wider community’s concern after an incident targeting such a young child. They emphasised the need for everyone with relevant information to come forward. As of now, the police believe this was an isolated event.
